Microchipping for Dogs Becomes Law

Microchip-dog_pupp_2473223b

From the 6th of April 2016, all dogs must be microchipped and registered to an approved database by the time they are 8 weeks old. At NuVet, we recommend ALL pets are microchipped, not just dogs and cats, but rabbits, ferrets, tortoises….

If you pet may go missing, a microchip is a great idea to help you reunite with your beloved pet.

As well as getting the chip implanted, it is important to keep the database up to date. Often, when stray pets are handed into us, the contact details on the microchip database is not up to date, which can mean we cannot reunite you to your pet. The database companies are completely separate to NuVet, so updating your details with us, does not automatically update your details with the microchip company.
