Vet Team

Dr Helen Bateson MA Vet MB GP Cert (Ophthal) MRCVS



Helen graduated from Cambridge Vet School in 2009. She initially worked in general practice in London, and joined NuVet in March 2012.

Helen lives with her husband James, their son Matthew and their two rescue cats Leonard and Penny.

In December 2013, Helen passed her General Practitioner Certificate in Ophthalmology. This means that Helen has a particular interest and skill with eye cases, and handles our most challenging eye medicine and surgery patients. Please see our ophthalmology page for more information.

As well as her interest in ophthalmology, Helen has a strong interest in soft tissue surgery, and enjoys the variety that working in general practice provides.

Dr Nikolaos Pallas DVM MRCVS



Nikos started at NuVet in September 2014. He graduated from the University of Thessaly in Greece in 2012. He worked for 2 years in small animal practice in Athens before moving to the UK. Nikos has a particular interest in cardiology. He has three dogs who live in Greece with his parents – Kylie, Rony and Sylva.

In July 2016 Nikos obtained a GP Certificate in Cardiology. This means he has a particular interest and knowledge about heart disease, and helps our more advanced cardiac cases. He regularly performs in-depth cardiology consultations, echocardiograms (heart scans) and electrocardiograms

Dr Stamatios Bouses MRCVS



Stamatios started working at Nuvet in September 2016. He graduated from the University of Thessaloniki in Greece in 2015, where he did an internship in Orthopaedics and Neurology.

Stamatios has a Jack Russell Terrier at home in Greece, named Vito.

Jenni Northern RVN

Registered Veterinary Nurse


Jenni qualifed with a NVQ3 in Veterinary Nursing in 2010 and joined Nuvet in August 2011.

Jenni has a special interest in veterinary anaesthesia and intensive care, and has attended a number of courses in that field. Jenni is married to Chris and they share their home with a lovely tricoloured staffy called Rueben, and two cats – Suki and Tinkerbelle. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her horse, Angel.

In October 2014, Jenni passed her Merit Award in Small Animal Medical Nursing.

Nikita Smeeton RVN

Registered Veterinary Nurse


Nikita joined our team in July 2012. She qualified with a Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary nursing in January 2012. She shares her life with 2 beautiful Staffordshire bull terriers and several chickens and hedgehogs.

Nikita has been involved in setting up our puppy parties which are a great success and she also is involved in running our nurse clinics

Nikita is currently enrolled on the RCVS Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing programme. She also works as a “clinical coach,” training up new veterinary nurses.

Sam Plitsch RVN

Registered Veterinary Nurse


Sam qualified as a nurse from the College of Animal Welfare in 2013. Over the years, Sam has managed to take care of day old kittens and puppies that been orphaned for one reason or another, and works closely with several charities to give them a good start in life. She puts a lot of time and effort into nursing these little creatures until rehoming them is possible.

Sam also has several pets of her own including a German Shepherd Dog, two cats and lots of guinea pigs, rabbits and chinchillas. Sam holds the International Society of Feline Medicine Certificate in Feline Nursing

Nicholle Marchetti

Registered Veterinary Nurse


Nicholle started working at NuVet in April 2016. She has nearly finished studying towards a Degree in Veterinary Nursing and Applied Animal Behaviour. She is particularly interested in medical cases and the nursing of our hospitalized patients.

She has two dogs – a cross called Jessie and a Springer called Toska.

Jay Ward

Student Veterinary Nurse


Jay started working at NuVet as a work experience student in 2013. Then in June 2014 she started work part time as our Kennel Assistant. Jay helps our fully qualified nurses look after the in-patients and keep the hospital clean and tidy. Jay is currently studying a Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing at the College of Animal Welfare.

At home, Jay has two lurchers called Dew and Ticksy.

Debbie Parry

Practice Administrator


Debbie  started working at NuVet in 2010, having worked previously with Marwan before he set up his own clinic. In addition to her day-to-day work on reception, Debbie deals with our insurance claims and works very hard to get all the paperwork in order.

Debbie has two cats – Pauly and Oasis – as well as two daughters, a son and four grandchildren. In summer 2013, Debbie completed her NVQ 3 in Customer Care.

Rachael Geraghty

Head of Reception


Rachael started working at NuVet in October 2014. She lives with her husband David, their 8 year old daughter Eleanor, 3 cats (Willow, Griffin & Hugo), and their dog Martha. Rachael’s last job was working as a Customer Relations Advisor and she has obtained NVQ levels 2 and 3 in Customer Service. In her spare time Rachael likes to see her friends and family, watch her daughters riding lessons and relax with her pets.


Charlotte Pask

Charlotte Pask
Charlotte started working at NuVet in May 2015, before coming to Nuvet Charlotte worked in the French Alps, which meant she had plenty of time to enjoy one of her favourite hobbies, skiing. At home, she now has two collie puppies, Blue & Dot and some chickens!


Carol Reed

Carol first started working at NuVet in December 2015. Previously, Carol has had several roles including a gym instructor and working at a dentist, but she loves working at NuVet and having the opportunity to see all the different animals every day. Carol has four children and ten grandchildren – which keeps her very busy!

Carol has always had cats and dogs, and currently lives with German Shepherds Kira & Max.

Paul Hobson BVetMed MRCVS


Paul graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1981. Paul spent 20 years in general small animal practice before his increasing interest in dentistry led him to move to this as a full time occupation. Paul is studying towards an American Veterinary Dental College diploma. Paul is very involved in veterinary dental education including teaching at the Royal Veterinary College as a guest lecturer, presenting at conferences and local meetings and authoring articles for veterinary books, journals and newsletters.

Paul visits us to treat our more advanced dental cases, as well as providing us with his excellent help, support and advice.

Paul Smith BVetMed DVC MRCVS

Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology


Paul graduated from The Royal Veterinary College in 1997. He spent a year in first opinion practice before completing a junior clinical training scholarship in ‘Small Animal Medicine and Surgery’ and then a three year senior clinical training scholarship in ‘Veterinary Cardiopulmonary Medicine’ at the R(D)SVS, The University of Edinburgh. His main areas of interest are clinical cardiopulmonary medicine and interventional cardiology. Since completing his residency he has been working in private referral practice.

Paul is able to visit our practice to perform heart assessments without the stress of your pet travelling long distances to see an experienced specialist.

David Williams MA VetMB PhD CertVOphthal CertWEL MIBiol FHEA FRCVS


Since qualifying in 1988 David has devoted his professional life to veterinary ophthalmology. He undertook a residency at the Animal Health Trust, studied for a PhD at the Royal Veterinary College and now runs the ophthalmology clinic at the Cambridge Vet School. Other claims to fame include teaching our own vets Alice and Helen, when they were at vet school! He makes visits to us at NuVet, to help us with challenging ophthalmic cases.


Jean-Benoit Lefebvre DVM DipECVS MRCVS

European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery


Jean-Benoit (also known as “JB”) is our visiting surgeon for our more complex surgical cases. He qualified from Liege in Belgium in 2002 and trained further with a residency at Cambridge Vet School from 2005 to 2008. He obtained his European Diploma in Surgery in February 2009.

JB’s specialist skills allow NuVet to offer referral consultations and surgery for complicated cases within NuVet’s practice. This means that you will not have to travel to another hospital and that your vet will remain directly involved throughout your pet’s treatment.

JB has performed a number of surgeries for us including fracture repair, cruciate ligament repairs, elbow arthroscopy and ear surgery.
